Powered by the sun
Largely solar powered and thriving from a proper bed. As much as my inflatable mattress was a fully pimped step up, quite literally, on my roll mat camping. A bed pillows duvet and an insane view...a little bit of heaven that was rather hard to get out of....except for the nut desperate to go to the beach.
I was worried about swimming here as google said no.....what I need to remember is I am.pretty water savvy and can probably make a fairly educated guess other than the Sewage or jellyfish.
Instead we strolled to the beach, cup, an actual cup of tea, in hand to see the morning dog walkers and a couple of swimmers and let the nut rip. Barely a breath of wind and already warmth to the sun a dip would have been glamour.
Wow what a wonderful spot this is.
Alnmouth is right on the east coast miles of sandy beach which dogs are allowed to dominate.....well there is no restrictions throughout the year....so you are almost weird if you don't have one!
The plan for today is a bit flexinle which is quite unlike me but trying to be a bit more relaxed these days and not stress when things dont go to plan or have an A B or C plan as Vicky will remembwr om our flatout camper holiday
So we strolled the length of the beach discovering that the sea side 9 hole golf course is the oldest in England and this coast is littered with golf courses in these coastal villages..... playing from the 1840s or something. Along with a fairly original lifeboat station now closed and home to the local rowing club. A lottle view over the meandering estuary mouth and wander up the high street and found the largest cheese straws ever! Obviously purchased one for.lunch later!
We were off on a coastal tour! Without a doubt this would be a fantastic place to cycle and if I had been more organised and had more time through a combination of the buses and my feet could jave blown Walnut up walking the coastal path and saved a lot on parking!
Instead we did stops and walks by car.....first stop Newtown...a very small village with some cute white houses and another 9 hole golf course. Parking here was already rammed so we moved on to Seahouses from where you can see the Farne Islands
Farne islands famous for puffins seala amd Grace Darling the first heroine of my childhood i remember being amazed by her. Doggos arent allowed in the museum and qhen we turned up to park it was a human carpark.....I managed to part the river the river of people to find a space and out we hopped to take a look.
I had turned up at boat departure time and seahouses is where the tpurs to the islands go from and I was soon to discover there was one that took you to the lighthouse that Grace Darling lived in.
What a bonkers life back then one of 7 ish kids they lived in loghthpuses the first one on land more with a garden a s aomewhere to grow stuff but that one wasnt very successful at stopping people hit the rocks. Then they moved to the Farne islands to be fair most her siblings had moved put and got.married so just her parents and her ypunger brother moved out to thw lighthouse.....where they lived in the.lighthouse no putaode space....only accessible at high water...can you imagine. Anyway I had missed the toir today but there was one tomorrow and dogs are welcome. Whoop whoop.
So a classic seaside snack of a pot of prawns and ww werr really getting intot the holdiday swing
From here we followed the coast N past Bamburgh to Holy Island/Lindisfarne. An island that you can drive to when the tide is right, with a history dating back 6th century. I think pictures alone show how beautiful this part of the world is....probably helped by the blue sky....and boat houses that are upside down boats!
It would definitely be have been a cool idea to park off the island and walk the sandy people route to the island for the day.
A little walk to the water for a swim was called for ......only turns out it was a long way amd suddenly it was very very wind and thought of getting sand blasted when I got out didnt appeal.....but the miles and seemingly miles of sandy beach to myself was insane.
Finally an ice cream another step up on the holiday mode and then one more attempt at a swim. This time at Bamburgh castle and finally a free parking spot. Ultimately most of these places ypu need to spend half a day to make the parking alone worth it but also because there is so much to cover.....though there should be some tourist parking pass you can buy!
Worn out again and carcolepsy and hangry, time for the Giant cheese straw only to discover there was onion init ss well....why...why...why......decision making failing we finally made it back to our little home ready collapse and unable to plan.
Blown up!
