Mean midges on the hottest day of the year!

I am guessing at some point rather than keeping midges out my net kept one in for a feast and it has chomped itself around the edge of my face down my neck and behind my ears before no doubt dying due to gluttony! Between that and horse flies that seemingly bit me through my trousers I am marginally peeved today....on the hottest oh wait wettest day of my holiday.
The usual whoopsy where has the morrning gone as I ate my bacon amd scrambled eggs which basically.means Walnut then stops eating!
Today was going to be our big day maybe even two hikes. Thay rapidly diminshed to maybe one in the drizzle soon to be rain that was expected. All needing to be within an hour of home to avoid carcolepy issues.
A quick recap of the things/points of interest that I had saved and i was off to yomp along Hadrians wall and climb up into Robin Hood famous and infampusly treeless gap and look out yonder at my lands!!!
For something so iconic that is no more it was surprisingly popular and I found some D of E groups they didnt look too.lost yet!
Great wall of China this may not be but the ups and downs and twists and turns former shells of huts along the way still are a marvel and there is somwthing quite appealing about walking it one day!
Anyway i trudged along trying not to get pulled down by Walnut and happy when she pulled me up....turns out shes a mountain goat. One of the things I have found is that dogs must be kept on leads in most places which I am fine with except when others haven't and then Walnut and said free roaming dogs become a serious trip/ drag over hazard
Then there it was the stump of a sycamore tree that once stood proudly through nature and qas a wonder for all, that 2 people thought it would be funny to cut down blows my brain it would've been neither easy or quick!
On the positive side it is now sprouting and so nature may yet win out again!
Its a weird little spot made stranger as people stop ang look at a stump amd pause and no doubt wonder.
As the drizzle built and we started to get cold with our cuppa we wandered back to the car through the gates that use a totally different system to anything i have seen before I can't decide if its over engineered or just better.....took a little too much working out versus the other solution here of a hook and chain!
I tried to go and discover one of the largest roman fort in the country the scale of which is huge and again just in awe of how far that time stretched. The nut is a bit of a hinderance to go round  some of these places so we had to find a cafe instead! We found one in a tiny little village that is also the shop as you might expect

In this massive world it is still so small, the women running the cafe loved walnut and were very friendly and after a little bit of chat it turns out we walked past each other just yesterday  on our waterfall walk. So funny
By the time we got home into our red squirrelll pod....thoigh I have yet to see a red squirrel think walnut might also be a limitong factor in this.....It was now raining quite hard! Thats us in for the night with a tidy up for.movong day tomorrow and some washing just because!

While running the tumbledryer i discovered two rather wet cyclists a husband wife hanging out trying to warm up and dry out.....and not having a lot of luck as the office was now closed to get the tokens for the dryer.

As i chatted away to them i did smile inside when the lady said she nearly cried today on their ride....as they were pissed wet through and had done 40miles on gravel tracks!
We are ready for the rain to end
