Will we won't we
Will we, won't we only a good sleep will reveal the answer of if after today tomorrow will happen......well on the swimming sense......as tomorrow is coming whatever.
We are sat looking over the quay with a takeway cuppa and cake in the hope it will help us make some decisions about we should do about dinner tonight at least nevermind swimming tomorrow
0555 someone has turned a hosepipe on not in a good way....its is initially greeted by giggles from our respective rooms. Then reassurance it will go through.....well wont rain that hard again. Same same right
Due to the lovely weather we are taking on day 2 first assuming it plays ball. Which requires us getting on a boat at the quay at 0700 and heading across to Bryhr to them take on 3 different swim covering the islands. Everyone was very excited and I think we were the most anxious.....the number of repeat offenders is exceptionally high at this event and the number of people doing it for someones birthday, including a 60th didnt ease my concern.
Anyway we werr split into 3 groups the Green pod being ours....the slowest with probably about 70 people 50 odd people in the orange group and 30ish in the red the speedy people. The majority of people were in wetsuits but there we still a fair few skins swimmers out there.
On top of the swimmers the safety team of kayakers and boats is huge that were to shepherd us along our route.
I could bore you all with the trials and tribulations of each individual swim but here are the hightlights
Swim 1 Bryher to trTresco: 600m
Actually 800m not good for the psychology barrier of how far are you going but generally pretty nice and fairly cool to swim between two islands. Then a sort walk a quick wee stop and you are off
Swim 2
Tresco to St Martin: 2.5 km
Dodging rocks battling sideways tide (requiring a little boat trip to catch up), swimming through long seaweed thinking this is where I go down or I wonder if eels live in there and traversing a sandbank to then try not to disappear with tide when you cross the channel!
Then a pause which was good as it allowed us to stuff our faces with food and drink and consider the next 3km swim which was bound to be longer than they said a the previous two had been.
This one you could more clearly see the route, we went swerving around rocks! This one is the last of the day we will be landing back on the island we are staying on and will only have a 40min walk home and up the hill to the tent!
Turns out it might be our last one
Swim 3: St Martin to St Mary 3+ too many
Hard to describe but this felt like swimming in an ocean hard to see anyone waves overtaking you or sometimes breaking on you. Your tow float trying to take you out and make you swim one armed. More attack of the seaweed I required assistance from the kayaks to removed the seaweed from me so i could swim and some crazy zig zagging at the end as I struggled to stand thinking we go again tomorrow!
Conclusion dinner at the tent no way we can go down and up again and we need to try and dry out wetsuits before getting up at 0545 or lie on and go to the gardens on Tresco.
