From the holiday buddy...


Libby's been telling me since I got here that I have to write a guest 'holiday buddy' blog, so here's what we've been up to over the past couple of days..

For our final day on Phi Phi we'd decided to do the 'strenuous but sweaty' (said Lonely Planet) walk up to the Viewpoint, which had stunning views over the island beaches and jungle.  With just 3 hours sleep for me (jetlag finally kicked in!) and us sleeping in a bit later than planned, it was pretty hot and sweaty before we even got going.  I decided very quickly after setting off that 'strenuous and sweaty' wasn't for me, so found a cafe while Libby marched on. Here's the result... she says it was worth it, in spite of the sweat dripping into her eyes.

It was then back on the ferry to Phuket (a surprisingly easy journey compared to the trip over!) and we made our way to a beach bar overlooking Kata Beach for sunset and to meet Lib's mate Zoe, on holiday
here with some of her friends.  Lib was getting stressed with our taxi driver, who didn't know where he was going (they don't seem to do maps here!) and we missed the sunset sadly, but it was still a great location.  Might try and make it back on one of out last nights.

The following day we were off on a boat trip around the Phang Nga National Park to see some of the gorgeous islands.  They packed far too many people on the boat than it had space for - meaning we sat on the roof for our whole journey... a bit bumpy in places with Lib clinging on to the railing to stay on.

The tour took in the famous 'James Bond Island' Khao Tapu as featured in The Man with the Golden Gun, which Libby was outraged that I have never seen!  Here I had my first ice cream of the trip!  We also stopped at a floating village (lots of houses on stilts) took a kayak ride, complete with man who did the paddling, to see one of the islands up close, and lazed on beach with the softest, whitest sand for a bit of chill time before heading back and on to our final location for the holiday... Patong.

'Sin City' I've heard it called... I'll let Libby tell you about the sights and sounds there in her next update!! :-)

Ambling and absorbing

With the power of 3 the faffing and forgetting  time is also somewhat trebled....After scrambled eggs and marmite on toast....yes I brought marmite with us. The cats herded themselves out the door for a coffee still thoroughly confused about what clothing should be worn, as while it isnt the wamest outside they do seem to like to keep the inside at short and tshirt temperatures!!! The appartment upgrade....is an upgrade as its nearer the town centre which is only about 15mins in any direction. If a little cosier, bed sharing required but not all 3 and given we'll be inside a tin can for the rest of the holiday, we are easing ourselves in gently. Sightseeing abound after Fi required a change of clothes having decided to wear her coffee rather than drink it! First up we tested the flat bridge we will be running on tomorrow eeeekkkkk and head over to the Arctic Cathedral. Questioning whether is was steeper on the way there or on the back......is in steeper than the Itchen bridge.....o...

Things could only get better....

Tap tap..... Hmmmm...... Was that someone knocking on the van? I was half alseep in some wildly crazy vivid dream as we all semi woke up hot as hell to a 'stern' Norwegian lady. Why are you parked in two spaces? Our jaunty angle not sounding so fun I will have to fine you 600 kronas way too early to vaguely contemplate the maths or formulate a response but Lindsey diplomatically replied that it was slmeone elses fault and we will move cue some shuffling around in pyjamas and we were off to the capsite we had spied as we were also reaching a critical situation with toilet onboard. Campsite flakstad was a great location at the other end of the beach and had the toilet emptying facilities but the grumpy man wouldnt let us even pay to do it....day not starti g well. We paused made a cup of tea in bid to improve our day in search of a breakfast spot. I closed the sliding door with the window still open on its hydraulic arms and they detach. So while i climb ...
